Warts

warts-landing.jpg

Warts are caused by viruses and are highly contagious. Since it is the start of any school year, many children and adults will develop warts on their fingers, hands, feet, or face. The warts usually start as small circles to become rough and and large over time. Warts can multiply and spread to other parts of the body. Warts are not caused by bacteria or fungal infections. However, they are very common in schools, gyms, locker rooms, preschools, clinics, hospitals, waterparks, and other public places.

Warts do not cause pain initially. However, if the warts grow large and touch nerves or other develop on sensitive parts of the body, there will be pain. Warts can grow for weeks or months before people realize how severe the infection can be.

Talk with your doctor or pharmacist today if you suspect you have a wart. Warts are treated by different medications depending on the size, location, and severity. There are several over-the-counter treatments which may include salicylic acid, covering with adhesive tapes, prescription medications, or freezing.

Advise your school nurse about possible warts and be sure to let your cosmetologist know if you have any facials, skin treatments, haircuts, or other beauty procedures scheduled in the near future.

Skin, Nails, and Biotin

Biotin is a vitamin necessary for healthy skin, hair, and metabolism. Most people receive enough Biotin in the foods they eat. Foods such as whole-grain cereals, eggs, dairy, peanuts, and chicken contain Biotin.

Pregnant women are at risk of being deficient in Biotin. Most gynecologists will recommend a prenatal vitamin with Biotin to help maintain healthy levels throughout pregnancy.

Women who are deficient in Biotin frequently have hair loss, dry skin, painful mouth sores, and generalized weakness. People who are diabetic are often deficient in biotin. There is no special blood test for biotin, however the supplements are available over-the-counter.

Talk with your doctor and cosmetologist about any questions you may have regarding vitamin deficiencies, hair loss, or nail damage.

Blackheads, Whiteheads, and Acne

Most people will develop pimples on their face during the teenage years which can last to adulthood. Whiteheads are pimples that have a clogged pore which has closed and bulged outward. A blackhead is an open pore which has clogged and developed a dark color due to oxidation and exposure to air. Both types can become infected by bacteria.

When bacteria grow inside of blocked pores, there is inflammation of the skin which causes pain and swelling under the surface. Many people try to pop the pore to drain the material inside. However, this causes scarring, more pain, and additional infections in the future.

Some women find that birth control pills or patches help to clear acne since the hormones are better balanced. There are side effects with birth control hormones, so it is important to discuss with your doctor what may be appropriate for your condition.

The best treatment is to consult with a doctor and cosmetologist regarding facial cleansers, avoiding chemicals on the face which cause pores to be blocked, and maintaining a healthy diet. Some cases of acne are severe and will require oral or topical antibiotics 3 or assets. These medications can be used for months or years to help keep the skin clear.

SPF Sunscreen

The sun causes radiation exposure due ultraviolet rays. Chemical reactions happen in the skin with permanent damage. The effects get worse over time. However, there are sunscreen options that can protect the skin. “SPF” stands for “Skin Protection Factor”. It is very important to use SPF sunscreen that blocks against both UVA and UVB rays because these are linked with skin damage, premature aging, and skin cancer.

Generally the higher the SPF number, the more protection it provides. However, not all SPF formulas are the same and none of them provide 100% protection. Sunscreen must be used in combination with hats, clothing, and minimizing outdoor sun exposure during the midday to have the most effect. Sunscreen does wear off after 2 hours of use due to sweat and absorption. It must be reapplied often on all areas of the body that come in contact with sunlight. You should talk with your Doctor and Cosmetologist regarding which SPF formulations are best for your skin. This will help to prevent moles, sunspots, and wrinkles and keep you looking young and healthy!

Keratin Hair Treatments

Everything You Need to Know About Getting a Keratin Treatment

There are several keratin hair treatments available in the United States. Some have formaldehyde, while others are formaldehyde-free. The goal of the keratin treatment is to fill in the porosity of the hair. This will help to reduce tangles, decrease frizz, and help to avoid breakage. The treatment is best for people with curly or wild hair. There are over-the-counter keratin treatments available, however the quality is not as good. It is best to have a licensed cosmetologist examine your hair, determine what type of keratin treatment works best, and then give you tips on proper shampooing to maintain the results. The natural texture of the hair will return in about 3 months for most people. Keratin treatments can be repeated 2-3 times a year.

Balayage Hair Styles

beauty_supreme3

Balayage is a French word that loosely refers to “painting the hair in a special way.” The idea is to recreate the way your hair looked and felt when you were a small child. The colors are softer, the hair feels stronger, and effect is to create harmony with your face and figure. Many models and celebrities use Balayage to show off their youthful skin when they are out in public. There is minimal maintenance and the effect is very different from regular “highlights” in the hair. Talk with Sadia today at 281-881-1112 and receive a consultation with sample colors to bring out your best look for the summer!
